5 Woodville Terrace — Luxury House Renovation & Extension, Lytham, Lancashire
Residential Architecture · Whole-House Remodelling · Contemporary Extension · Interior Design · Private Leisure Facilities · Design Management
Project Description
5 Woodville Terrace is a comprehensive renovation, remodelling and extension of an established residential property in Lytham St Annes, Lancashire, designed and managed by Chartered Architect Joel Firth.
The project involved the complete architectural and interior transformation of the existing house, combining extensive refurbishment with substantial new accommodation and bespoke leisure facilities.
A new rear extension creates additional living space and strengthens the relationship between the house and garden. The redevelopment also incorporates a separate annexe with garage accommodation and a swimming pool at upper level, introducing a distinctive private leisure facility within the grounds.
A dedicated basement cinema provides further entertainment accommodation, integrated into the wider remodelling of the property.
The architectural approach considers the original house, contemporary extensions, ancillary buildings and interior spaces as a single coordinated design, creating a cohesive family residence.
Joel Firth’s involvement extended from initial architectural concepts and planning through construction and design management, maintaining continuity between the original design vision and its implementation.
Survey & Existing Building Appraisal
Architectural assessment of the existing property, its internal accommodation, circulation, building fabric and relationship with the surrounding site.
The appraisal identified opportunities for comprehensive remodelling, extension and the introduction of additional leisure and ancillary accommodation.
Concept Design
Development of the architectural concept for the transformation of the existing residence.
The design explored the reorganisation of internal spaces, the relationship between the original house and rear extension, and the integration of the separate annexe, garage and elevated swimming pool.
The proposals sought to create a coherent architectural composition, balancing the character of the existing property with contemporary residential requirements.
Architectural Design
Comprehensive architectural design for the remodelling and extension of the existing house.
The proposals incorporated a substantial rear extension, separate annexe with garage accommodation and an upper-level swimming pool, together with a basement cinema.
The architectural approach considered building proportions, circulation, natural light, structural relationships and the integration of the various elements within the site.
Interior Design
Full interior design developed alongside the architectural remodelling.
The commission included spatial planning, room layouts, materials, finishes, lighting and architectural detailing, creating a coordinated interior character throughout the refurbished residence.
The interior design extended to the principal living accommodation and specialist spaces, including the basement cinema and leisure facilities.
Rear Extension
A substantial rear extension provides additional accommodation, improving the relationship between the principal living spaces and the garden.
The new architecture was developed as an integral part of the overall house transformation.
Annexe, Garage & Swimming Pool
A separate ancillary building incorporates garage accommodation with a swimming pool positioned at upper level.
The arrangement combines practical vehicle accommodation with private leisure facilities, creating a distinctive addition to the residential development.
Basement Cinema
A dedicated basement cinema provides a private entertainment space within the remodelled house.
The cinema was integrated into the wider architectural and interior design, considering circulation, spatial planning and its relationship with the principal accommodation.
Planning
Preparation and development of architectural proposals through the planning process, addressing the substantial house remodelling, rear extension and separate annexe incorporating garage and swimming pool facilities.
The planning design considered the relationship between the proposed additions, existing property and surrounding residential setting in Lytham.
Construction & Design Management
Joel Firth provided construction-stage design management, coordinating the architectural and interior design through the delivery of the project.
The commission included design coordination, review of construction details, material selections and the integration of specialist elements associated with the swimming pool, cinema and ancillary accommodation.
The approach maintained consistency between the original architectural concept and the developing building.
